Not writing today

I need a break. I'll pretend to write tomorrow.

National Poetry Month 2014

What to wear--what to wear?

I hope to write, write, write in April. I don't know...this will be kind of crazy. Will I really be writing a screenplay, a novel, and 30 poems? Sounds kind of ridiculous.

Oh, well. Away I go.

The Beginning to the Middle

The story I am developing this month has finally found its main character. She has a goal that will drive her to the end, and I know how the pursuit of her goal changes her and where everyone might stand at the end of the story.

Now I can go to the middle where she begins to change and see where the plot leads me there. It's funny how I can take a story which vaguely interests me and develop it into something that excites me with just a few words.

LeFiWriMo 2012 - Day 3

Okay, my momentum is... nonexistent. If only I could come up with the excitement I had when I was thinking about writing this. Every other minute I come up with some other idea I think I would like to do more than what I'm doing now.

But I'm invested in this. I want to have a series of stories for my husband's blog. I want to write them. But it's just so boring. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. The research is the best part for me, going to different sites, looking up passages in my Bible. The act of writing them out, on the other hand, is like pulling duck's teeth.

I hope I find my joy in this. Soon.

I'm supposed to be at 2500 words right now. *Murder >.<*

LeFiWriMo 2012 Day 2

It's that time again! The LegendFire Writing Community is hosting another Writing Month this April as a counterpart to NaNoWriMo. The differences? Well, the word goal is 25,000 instead of 50,000; it's hosted by my favorite writing community; and it feels more cozy and close knit than the sprawling NaNo site. It's LeFiWriMo.

Hopefully, I'll do as well as I did in the previous one. This seems to be the only time that I can actually stick with my writing every day. I'm writing morality tales about how a demon (it never actually shows up) influences the people attending a church youth group.

Today is Day 2 and I've got to get my 1K words down. So far I've found ways to procrastinate.

Goals

Big sigh.

I'm making progress with most of my goals. The word count and writing everyday? No problem. The learning about the writing craft? Done and done.

The writing a different plot type to learn plots? No go. I can't finish the story I started. I just can't. It's not coming out the way I picture it. I'm so bored with it. I probably should just start over or on something else but... I'm lazy.

There. I said it.

I've been clocking in around two to four thousand words a week. I can do better. I will do better. I'll be diligent and persistent. Side note: I need to figure out how to update my goals more often.

Goal 1 Progress: January 25, 2012

Goal 1 Progress should have been
"Update Goal 1 Progress Regularly."

Day 30 - January 25, 2012

Goal: Write every day.

Purpose: To make a habit of writing.

Mini-Goals: Learn the structures to different kinds of plots: Plot 1 - Quest. Learn more about screenwriting for hubby's shows.

Actions: Wrote 2000 words for Josh Journal episode outlines, 500 words of Act 1 Quest story, and totaling 2500 words with an average of about 500 words a day (on the 5 days I wrote).

Progress: Terrible. I hardly worked on that Quest story. I think I should have planned it more so that I would know whether or not my interest in the plot would be sustained.

Immersing Myself in eMedia

I've decided that if I'm doing this thing-- writing for web series and dedicating myself to its promotion, which takes up hours of my day-- I might as well go whole hog.

I will be reading ebooks and watching web series, hopefully in significant numbers. I will then review them on this blog. This will force me to reach out and network with other authors and writers, something that I am loathe to do. Also, it will keep me up to date about what's relevant and (blegh) trending.

First up on my Kindle (got a Kindle, ya'll!) is the short story "Fire Eater" by Court Ellyn. I'm halfway finished, and I think I can get a review up by January 5th.

Goal 1: Write Every Day

I'm procrastinating by making illustrations!
Before 2011, I wrote maybe 5,000 words a year. Pretty pathetic. I have folders full of stories and poems I began but never finished. They all mock and taunt me every time I see the files.

But I'm leaving those habits behind. This year, I'm pleased to say that I've written over 100,000 words-- and that's just since May. I actually finished rough drafts and whole stories. I believe I'm well on my way to becoming a writer.

However, I can't stop now. It's time to kick this into high gear. If I'm going to be a writer (and not just any old one, but a good one), I need lots of practice and the habits of a good writer. Where I'm at now, I could easily fall back into writing a few hundred words every other month. I don't want that. Writing feels so good for me to let go of it now.

So what good habit do I want to develop? Well, lots of them. But I'll start with writing (almost) every day, or 5,000 words a week. I need a couple days a week to develop ideas and then I'm off. I'm only going to count poems and stories; brainstorming, revising/editing, or commenting (or blogging) won't be added to my goal. That will keep me from bs-ing myself.

I figure I have to get better if I write more, right? Right?
